WHY MULCH?

Mulch helps slow moisture evaporation so more water remains in the soil and available to thirsty plant roots. Helps prevents weeds. A 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch naturally helps prevents weed from sprouting and taking over the landscape by blocking their growth and access to sunlight.

WHEN SHOULD MULCH?

Spring is a great time to apply mulch in Ohio. In the spring, the soil has warmed up and has dried up from winter's rain and snow. This makes mid to late spring the perfect time to apply mulch. In a typical season, you might apply mulch in late April or early May.

In the Fall, if you have perennials or cool weather annuals, laying down a good, thick layer of mulch is highly advisable if you want them to stay healthy in the fall and survive the winter.
